Teflon tape, combines the heat tolerance and release characteristics
of polytetrafluoroethylene (a.k.a. PTFE) with the strength and dimensional
stability of fiberglass. This self-adhesive tape, often referred to as
adhesive Teflon® tape, provides maximum ease of application.
Teflon tape is available in two adhesive formulations:
Acrylic PTFE Tape: highly persistent adhesion at room temperature; able to
withstand intermittent temperatures between -100° and 275°F (-73° and 135°C).
Silicone PTFE Tape: adheres readily to heated surfaces; repositionable without
residue; able to tolerate constant ambient temperatures from -100° to 500°F (-73° to 260°C).
Teflon tape is non-toxic, odorless, tasteless, and is FDA compliant (21 CFR 177.1150)
for use in food processing, packaging, and handling. Teflon tape is made from non-woven
fiberglass cloth coated with PTFE, a combination that deliver excellent dimensional stability,
tensile strength, and durability, as well as extremely low elongation (<1%).
